Software requirements specification and project management for an online Italian dictionary
The "Dizionario delle Combinazioni Lessicali" has been the first collocation dictionary for the Italian language. Such a tool is fundamental to the correct use of language, especially when writing. It includes 6,700 entries and more than 110,000 collocations extracted from real language usage. Following the success of the first paper edition published in 2009, the author, Francesco Urzì, decided to digitise his work with the support of our team. Qabiria was asked to provide support to define the software specifications, manage the project and interact with developers.
After carefully analysing both the work and the client's needs, we drafted the technical specifications of the application and identified the appropriate framework for developing the project (an open source solution called TemaTres). Afterwards we supported the developers and coordinated both the communication and the various phases of the project, which was carried out in Argentina, Italy and Spain. Finally the dictionary, which was implemented in the client's website in Wordpress, was launched in mid-2014 and has proved to be as good as the best lexicographic products available on the market in terms of functionalities and graphics.
