The book
After publishing a manual on a translation programme and a text for translators, with Trovare tutto su internet, written in collaboration with colleague Alessandra Ghiazza, we decided to broaden the field.
This computer literacy manual is not just intended for translators, but for anyone who uses the Internet for information research, especially on a professional level.
Online searching is a fundamental transversal skill for all vocations. From observing colleagues and friends, we realised that this ability is, however, poorly used. Research is often approached in a careless and superficial manner. This behaviour is entirely warranted in view of the ever-increasing effectiveness of search engines, which are now able to anticipate users’ requests, almost always interpreting them in the right way.
So why a book on online research? What is there to really learn about using Google and other search engines?
Using the strategies and techniques explained in the book, you can get better results, finding what you are interested in in less time. Perhaps learning to look where you have never looked before.
In the 9 chapters of Trovare tutto su internet (How to Find Everything on the Internet) we explain:
- how search engines work;
- which are the most useful search tools (with a chapter dedicated to Google Search);
- what are the best strategies to search efficiently for texts, images and documents;
- how to pose questions in the right way in forums and discussion groups;
- how to search within social media;
- how to verify sources of information;
- how to protect your privacy when searching;
- and finally, how to save found content.
All this is accompanied by plenty of examples from our daily experience.
The book is available as an ebook in EPUB, MOBI and PDF formats on the Qabiria store as well as on Amazon for those with a Kindle or who wish to read it as a paperback.
