Paper-to-digital conversion of the Dictionary of Lexical Combinations
Qabiria wrote the software specifications for Francesco Urzì and supervised the project of converting his Dictionary of Lexical Combinations from a paper volume to a web application.
Marco’s advice was crucial for the successful conversion of the paper dictionary into a web application, especially in the specification phase. In him I found a competent interlocutor, always willing to find the best balance between ‘editorial’ needs and technical constraints.

About Dizionario delle Combinazioni Lessicali
The Dictionary of Lexical Combinations was the first dictionary of collocations, or privileged word associations, for the Italian language. It is an indispensable tool for all those who want to write correctly and with linguistic fluency. It presents 6,700 lemmas and more than 110,000 combinations drawn from the Italian actually used.

The challenge
After the success of the first print edition of the Dictionary of Lexical Combinations published in 2009, the author, Francesco Urzì, wanted to set up a digital version of the work, in the form of a web application. He therefore asked Qabiria to assist him in drafting the specifications, project management, and developer relations.
The solution
After an initial phase of analysis of the work and the client’s needs, the Qabiria team drafted the technical specifications of the application and identified the appropriate framework for project development. An open source solution called TemaTres was chosen.
We then assisted the developers and coordinated communications and the project, which was completed remotely between three countries: Argentina, Italy and Spain.
The result
The dictionary was integrated within the client’s site, in WordPress, and launched in mid-2014, with a feature set and graphical look and feel on par with the best similar lexicographic products available on the market.
