Translation and layout of a product catalog

The challenge

Glassinox needed to get its general catalog, which was currently only in Spanish, to Leroy Merlin stores in Portugal. Therefore, he contacted Qabiria to have the catalog translated into Portuguese and paginated in Adobe InDesign format.

The solution

Our layout and DTP expert prepared and converted the 17 InDesign files that made up the 192-page, 10,000+ word Glassinox catalog into the appropriate translatable format.

This preparation was critical because it is used to verify the presence of all necessary resources in the package sent by the client. We also took over the uneditable text to transcribe and translate it separately.

Finally, we checked the formatting of the textual content so that the appearance remained the same, but no sentences were truncated by interruptions, tabulations or forced syllable separation.

After that, our Portuguese translator did the translation of the textual part, and upon delivery of the translated files, we completed the layout, as well as recreating all the images that contained text, resorting to Illustrator and PhotoShop to insert the translation while respecting the original appearance.

The result

Before delivery, as always, we subjected the PDF to a final thorough review of various aspects: that fonts were embeddable correctly or converted to curves/tracks where needed, and that settings such as page size, margins, linework, and abundances were respected.

Only when we were 100 percent sure that the document was perfect, we delivered the package to the client that faithfully reproduced the original structure, optimizing the images to reduce the overall file size without compromising the quality.
