The project
Translation is a service little known to the general public. Proofreading even less so.
For this reason, we have published the booklet Decalogo per richiedere la correzione di un testo (in Spanish, Decálogo para encargar la corrección de un texto, 10 Rules for Requesting Proofreading) in Italian, written by translator and proofreader Pilar Comín Sebastián in 2017 for the Unión de Correctores, the Spanish national association of editors and proofreaders.
This 30-page booklet covers what a client and a proofreader/reviewer should know in order to establish an effective working relationship.
It was created in the vein of the mini-guide Translation: Getting it right. A guide to buying translations by Chris Durban, which we have already mentioned in the article 3 simple steps to choosing a language service provider*.
The text, presented as a handbook, identifies the 10 most important points to explain what a proofreader does and, above all, what they are not obliged to do. It also outlines the typical phases of a text revision process.
Francesca Tintori, a former Qabiria trainee, was commissioned to translate it into Italian. The text was revised and adapted for the Italian market by Qabiria’s in-house team. Gloriana Cocozza, who took care of the final layout based on the original graphic design by Mariana Eguaras, also deserves our thanks.
