The book
The Irreplaceable Translator - Specialisation and Positioning for Translation Professionals is a text for translators looking to improve their positioning and consolidate their personal brand.
As a project, it grew out of a series of webinars on the same topic conducted for STL Training, which then turned into an ebook and a printed book of over 100 pages, divided into 7 chapters and accompanied by as many interviews with successful colleagues.
The text offers strategies and tips that you can immediately put into practice to set yourself apart from the competition, as well as many ideas on how to find your place in the translation market.
By following the practical guidance in the book, you will be able to establish, improve or rectify your own reputation and your clients’ perceptions of you, also thanks to examples from other colleagues. The aim is to understand how to choose the right way to present yourself according to the potential client (through CVs, QR codes, video presentations, a portfolio of work, leaflets, etc.), while understanding the importance of digital tools in the development of one’s personal brand.
The Irreplaceable Translator was also translated into Portuguese by Rosangela Fasolato, into Spanish by Gloriana Cocozza Garro and into English by Owen Bucher-Flynn.
We would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank those colleagues who took the time to respond to the interviews included in the book (in order of appearance in the publication):
- Roberto Crivello, technical translator;
- Pablo Muñoz Sánchez, video game localizer;
- Maria Pia Montoro, terminologist;
- Alessandra Martelli, translator and copywriter;
- Barbara Ronca, editorial translator;
- Valentina Stagnaro, translator and subtitler;
- Laura Prandino, literary translator.
