Sergio Alasia

Translator, mentor, admirer of the human Genius

Sergio Alasia

He graduated with honours in Spanish at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Turin, after spending a year in the Canary Islands, teaching Italian as a foreign language thanks to a scholarship. Right upon graduation, he moved to Barcelona to pursue a career in translation. He worked as a project manager for a multinational company specialising in technical documentation, where he coordinated the translation of more than 1.5 million words per year, particularly in the automotive sector. Here, he actively took part in the implementation of a new business management system, an opportunity which allowed him to deepen his already extensive knowledge of open source software and IT in general.

He translates from Spanish and English and has knowledge of Catalan, French, Portuguese and German. As a literary translator, he edited the translation and Italian edition of Nos dejaron el muerto by the Canarian writer Víctor Ramírez, which inspired the award-winning film La caja (The Wooden Box), by director Juan Carlos Falcón. In 2012, together with Marco, he published Complete Guide to OmegaT - Techniques, Tips and Tricks for Translators and Project Managers, the first manual entirely dedicated to OmegaT, a free and open source CAT tool.
