Allerglobal

Making tourism safer for travellers with allergies

Peanuts

At Qabiria, we like when innovation meets translation. One of the fruits of this union is Allerglobal, a web application for travelers and tourists with food allergies or intolerances.

A limited version of Allerglobal was launched in 2010, and was updated in 2019. Now we are looking for investors to perfect the app and help it to grow.

What is Allerglobal?

Allerglobal is a web app that helps travellers in foreign countries create cards (to be printed or saved on smartphones) with a list of allergies they suffer from, in a language of their choice. These allergy cards can then be shown at restaurants or to health personnel in the country they are travelling in.

How Allerglobal Was Born

The idea behind Allerglobal was conceived over lunch with a friend. He was expressing concern about an upcoming trip to Ukraine, as he has a strong peanut allergy. He was afraid of not being able to explain to hotel and restaurant staff that he could not eat any dishes containing the ingredient. After that conversation, we began planning and developing a beta version, which stayed online for many years and even achieved a bit of a social media presence.

The name comes from the combination of the words “allergies” and “global”, as the target audience of the service are tourists, adventurous people and all those who love to explore and plan international trips.

Features of Allerglobal

To reach the highest possible number of travellers and tourist destinations, the current version of Allerglobal is available in 15 languages and provides cards in 50 languages. No other such service on the market offers as many language combinations.

Allergies are divided into 3 categories:

  • environmental
  • food
  • medical (active ingredients)

These categories are then divided into about 70 different subcategories, covering a total of over 300 allergens.

The Future of Allerglobal

The app was created to provide a service to everyone who suffers food allergies. Development is currently stalled due to lack of resources. The app’s main features are active, but some details need improvement. For example, bidirectional languages (such as Arabic and Hebrew) are not rendered correctly.

We are therefore looking for investors to perfect the app and help it reach a wider audience.
