About Andoliando

Andoliando is the online project of Juana Román, a designer and artisan from Seville who specializes in knitting. She offers courses, ebooks and video tutorials on needlework, as well as a wide assortment of PDF patterns of unique creations. Having around 20,000 followers on Instagram, it is a reference for the Spanish-speaking creative knitting community.

The challenge

According to its international digital marketing plan, Andoliando wanted to improve its online positioning in foreign markets by the end of the year. This made it necessary to translate the andoliando.com website into U.S. English, taking into account the traffic already coming from the United States.

The project involved translation of almost the entire site totalling about 33,000 words, to be published in 2 weeks.

The platform with which the site was programmed is WordPress.

The solution

Qabiria immediately got in touch with the webmaster of Andoliando to agree on the optimal workflow. Together, we decided to use WPML, one of the most widely used plugins for the internationalization of sites developed in WordPress.

The webmaster extracted the content to be translated from the site, 273 files in XLIFF format, and handed them over to our team.

Next, Qabiria selected a translator with experience in fashion and, in particular, in knitting. The language of this craft contains very specialized terms, abbreviations and acronyms that can be cryptic to those unfamiliar with the field.

After the translation and proofreading stages, carried out in OmegaT, a review of the online content was carried out by Juana and her team, the real experts in the field.

The result

The project was completed and documented by the end of the year so that Andoliando could take advantage of the European Regional Development Fund called Xpande digit@l.

With its content translated into English, Andoliando has strengthened its international presence and improved its positioning in the United States, giving potential English-language customers more convenient access to the site’s many materials.
