We have been thinking for some time about making an economic contribution to the OmegaT project. We wanted to pay back all the time the program helped us save in our daily work as translators.
We took the opportunity from a discussion on the Yahoo! Group dedicated to OmegaT: users were discussing about adding a better treatment of the digits included in source text, to facilitate the translation of those segments where the textual part is fixed, while the numerical part is variable: such as “Page 1, Section 2”, “Page 2, Section 3”, etc. Details are described in the feature request on Sourceforge.
So we got in touch with the lead developer at that time, Didier Brel, We described the specifications to him and agreed on the budget and development schedule.
As an added feature, we also requested an option to set the auto-save interval, a key factor when working on a shared project over a network.
In a few weeks the very efficient Didier sent us a trial version of the software containing the two new features, which represent another small step forward for this program. The new code has later been added to the version available on Sourceforge and freely downloadable. As a gesture of gratitude, Qabiria’s name was also listed among the OmegaT project sponsors. We are grateful for that and very proud.
